Using vi as an hex editor « linux instead

So, open a file in vi as usual, hit escape and type:

:%!xxd

to switch into hex mode.

And when your done hit escape again and type:

:%!xxd -r

to exit from hex mode.

ffmpeg – Convertire video flv in mpeg

Dopo aver installato ffmpeg e gli eventuali plugin necessari, da terminale digitare:

ffmpeg -i input.flv -target dvd output.mpg

Per le impostazioni avanzate c'è sempre:

man ffmpeg

Installare DVB-T Terratec Cinergy XS in Ubuntu

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finalmente dopo molto tempo sono riuscito ad utilizzare una vecchia scheda DVB-T USB Terratec Cinergy XS su Ubuntu (11.04).

Ecco i passi da seguire:

  1. Compilare ed installare i moduli v4l-dvb seguendo questa quida (è necessario installare i sorgenti del kernel in uso).
  2. Installare un software per la visualizzazione della TV su Linux (Kaffeine...)
  3. Sintonizzare i canali
  4. Se Kaffeine restituisce un messaggio del tipo: 
    Cannot find demux plugin for MRL "fifo:/home/username/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/dvbpipe.m2t".

    Occorre installare alcune librerie:

    sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg
  5. In caso di problemi controllare sempre da terminale l'output di 
    dmesg

    Ad esempio un messaggio del tipo:

    [  237.122371] xc2028 8-0061: Error: firmware xc3028-v27.fw not found.

    indica che occorre installare i firmware nonfree:

    sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree
